About The Position

This is a part-time (up to 25 hours), hourly, regular, non-exempt position. The role involves assisting the Meals on Wheels site manager by preparing and packaging food, interacting with volunteers, delivering meals, and maintaining a clean service space. The driver will use company fleet vehicles to deliver meals to homebound seniors across Richland County, often being the main point of human contact for clients. The position offers predictable, convenient hours with weekday mornings and early afternoons, and flexible scheduling options.

Requirements

  • A valid South Carolina Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to pass a standard background check and drug screening.
  • Strong reliability, punctuality, and time-management skills.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Access to transportation.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently to meet team goals.
  • Must be dependable and courteous in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to lift, bend and carry up to 25 lbs for 100 feet.
  • Must be willing to work on Thanksgiving and possibly one other holiday.

Responsibilities

  • Complete delivery routes (typically 25+ stops) starting from our Millwood Avenue location near downtown Columbia.
  • Warmly greet each senior, brighten their day, and safely deliver their meal on schedule.
  • Navigate assigned routes efficiently while following all traffic laws and safety guidelines.
  • Arrive on time, ready to support the team and keep our delivery schedule running smoothly.
  • Assists with the packing and distribution of food, delivering meals as assigned.
  • Interacts and communicates with volunteers serving at the site.
  • Assures proper food temperatures and food safety, following required regulations.
  • Maintains cleanliness in the meal service area, following sanitation regulations.
  • Ensures completion of all end of service cleaning tasks, including kitchen equipment, utensils, floor, and garbage.
  • Attends training for portion control, record keeping, food safety, sanitation procedures, and other trainings scheduled by the Director.
  • Maintains SRI vehicle and vehicle records, per Transportation Training Manual.
  • Provides assistance to the Director of In-Home Services as requested.
  • Other duties and tasks as required by the Director of In-Home Services, or as required to fulfill the mission of the organization.
