About The Position

Under supervision, performs social or health service work of routine difficulty in providing in-home services, transportation services, or delivering "meals on wheels" to eligible clients. This position is safety sensitive and non-exempt from overtime. The ideal candidate has a kind heart and a passion for serving homebound older adults in our community.

Requirements

  • One year experience in assigned area; OR Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Meals on Wheels Drivers must have Food handler's certificate.
  • Vision acuity (near and far) for driving
  • Hearing and speech for ordinary conversation
  • Working knowledge of basic health care practices
  • Working knowledge of personal care techniques and transferring abilities
  • Working knowledge of needs and problems of disabled, elderly and low-income individuals
  • Working knowledge of available community services
  • Working knowledge of geriatrics
  • Working knowledge of health codes relating to assigned area
  • Working knowledge of safe driving techniques, including traffic and safety rules
  • Working knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance
  • Working knowledge of geographic area in and around Flagstaff
  • Skill in record keeping
  • Skill in proper lifting techniques
  • Skill in operating a vehicle in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to effectively handle lifting of up to fifty pounds
  • Ability to maintain patience in adverse situations
  • Ability to demonstrate emotional maturity
  • Ability to react to client crises by calling 9-1-1, Adult Protective Services or case manager as required by the situation
  • Ability to handle and record cash and check donations
  • Ability to apply basic safety methods for staff and client
  • Ability to recognize and report patient's health status
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse population
  • Ability to provide transportation service to the public, including elderly and handicapped individuals
  • Ability to recognize hazardous driving conditions
  • Ability to work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Navajo
  • Home Care and Respite Aides must acquire first aide and CPR certification within six months of employment.
  • May need to be certified in the State of Arizona as a Nurse Aide
  • May be fingerprinted as a condition of employment.
  • AmeriCorps, Peace Corps and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to eligible clients which may include household duties, chores and errands in the community, transporting passengers to appointments
