About The Position
The MDT Internship Program offers an immersive experience in problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork, allowing interns to contribute to Montana’s transportation projects that directly impact the traveling public. Interns will collaborate with area experts and gain invaluable hands-on experience. Our internships focus on training and integrating interns into our workforce of over 2,000 people across Montana, all playing a vital role in ensuring safe arrivals at destinations. This is a recruiting effort for a summer Safety Internship position. All applicants must be enrolled in a College, University, or Tech School. Applicants not currently enrolled may be considered if within six months of their graduation date. Students with fewer than 60 credit hours may also be considered.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in College, University or Tech School, or a recent graduate (no more than 6 months past graduation).
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Nice To Haves
- Entering final year of college or a recent graduate.
- Desired degree in Occupational Safety and Health or similar degree.
Responsibilities
- Transition MDT from the current Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to the new Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
- Assist MDT Safety Consultants with specialized training, jobsite safety inspections, and accident investigations as needed.
- Conduct staff training on new GHS requirements and safety data sheets.
- Update manuals with new safety data sheets.
- Perform chemical inventories.
- Conduct jobsite safety inspections.
- Perform accident investigations.
