About The Position

The MDR Supervisor is an integral part of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department, undertaking day-to-day supervision and clinical, teaching, and staff development responsibilities. This role also includes management of instrumentation required to support patient care. The position requires current knowledge of best practices and leading-edge technology in Medical Device Reprocessing, drawing upon contemporary evidence and current PIDAC, CSA, and MDRAO standards. The MDR Supervisor acts as a liaison between the operating room, procedures unit, and the MDR departments, performing quality responsibilities, playing a leadership role, and acting as a role model and resource for MDR staff. This role also involves administrative responsibilities and other duties consistent with the job classification. The position is responsible for assessing and processing repairs, ordering, shipping, and receiving of instrumentation, database management, and implementation of functions and reports in the current instrument tracking system. Supervising all day-to-day operations of the department, the successful candidate will also assist in entering payroll, scheduling, budgets, coordinating staff meetings, addressing Human Resources and Union-related concerns, new staff orientation, staff evaluations, assessing staff competencies, and other related tasks. The MDR Supervisor collaborates with the Program Director, Patient Care Managers, and Professional Practice Clinicians to plan, implement, and evaluate activities related to the day-to-day functioning of the MDR. Representation at tri-site MDR committee initiatives is also an expectation to develop, review, and revise policies and procedures related to new processes and equipment. This includes the development of education strategies and resources for MDR staff related to new processes, instrumentation, and equipment, along with developing and monitoring quality indicators related to MDR operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of current MDR standards, including PIDAC, CSA, MDRAO and Accreditation standards
  • Membership in a related professional association
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in MDR environment, including a current leadership role required
  • Experience using SPM software required
  • Skilled in the principles of adult learning
  • Knowledge of best practices in MDR setting
  • Skilled in maintaining instrument data base to ensure flow of instrumentation, supplies and utensils to the end users
  • Able to collaborate with vendors regarding equipment needs, repairs and upgrades
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and team leadership skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is imperative
  • Ability to prioritize/organize multiple projects with strict deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
