About The Position

CGS is looking for a Storyline Writer to support the US Army's Mission Command Training Program (MCTP) at Fort Leavenworth, KS. The Storyline Writer supports the U.S. Army Mission Command Training Program (MCTP) in the design, coordination, and execution of complex, realistic training environments for U.S. Army and Joint forces during Warfighter Exercises (WFXs) and Mission Rehearsal Exercises (MRXs). MCTP provides commanders and their staffs with rigorous, scenario-driven training designed to enhance mission command proficiency at Division, Corps, and higher levels. The Storyline Writer plays a critical role in this effort by helping to craft, synchronize, and manage the Master Scenario Events List (MSEL) and associated storyline injects, ensuring that exercise participants experience a coherent, operationally relevant environment that supports learning objectives and desired training outcomes.

Requirements

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint software.
  • Familiar with current Army and Joint doctrine.
  • BS/BA degree with 5+ years of military experience, or high school education with 10 years military experience.
  • Active DOD Secret clearance is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting MCTP, Combat Training Centers (CTCs), or other large-scale military exercises.
  • Familiarity with MSEL development, exercise control processes, and simulation environments (e.g., WARSIM, JLCCTC).
  • Knowledge of Joint or Coalition operations and integration.
  • Experience in scripting or narrative design for simulations, games, or military training events.

Responsibilities

  • Event Effects Recommendation: Analyze training audience plans and develop relevant storyline events.
  • Recommend appropriate effects (benefits or penalties) based on unit actions, ensuring alignment with training objectives and operational realism.
  • Provide feedback to Observer/Coach/Trainers (OC/Ts) how storyline developments affect exercise flow and outcomes.
  • Inject Coordination and Integration: Coordinate all aspects of storyline injects with response cells, work cells, intelligence scripters, OC/Ts, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure injects are properly synchronized with the overall scenario, simulation events, and operational timelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of storyline events and track inject execution during exercises.
  • MSEL Synchronization: Participate in MSEL Synchronization Meetings to refine storyline design, verify timing and sequencing, and ensure coherence with higher-level exercise themes.
  • Collaborate with scenario planners, simulation operators, and analysts to ensure injects generate the intended training effects.
  • Dynamic Scripting Support: Attend planning meetings with OC/Ts and exercise leadership to identify opportunities for dynamic scripting - the adjustment of storyline events in real-time to achieve desired end-state effects.
  • Adapt injects and narrative threads as the exercise evolves, maintaining consistency and relevance to the tactical and operational situation.
