About The Position

This is a critical team leadership role on our Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) Allocations team, reporting to the Vice President of the function. As the AVP, you will be the front-line leader responsible for the day-to-day execution, risk management, and oversight of a team of operations analysts focused specifically on MBS Allocations. You will act as the primary escalation point for the team, ensuring operational issues within the allocation lifecycle are resolved quickly and effectively. This role is a unique blend of deep subject matter expertise and people leadership. You will be responsible not only for monitoring controls and ensuring quality but also for the direct coaching, mentorship, and development of the analysts on your team. This is a key leadership development role with a direct path to more senior management positions within Markets Operations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) allocations lifecycle or similarly complex settlement environments.
  • Experience in leading operational processes, with a proven ability to manage daily workflows and handle escalations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to identify the root cause of issues and drive solutions.
  • A track record of mentoring or coaching junior team members is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily workflow for the MBS Allocations team; monitor volumes, queues, and work allocation to ensure timely and accurate completion of all allocation and pre-settlement processes.
  • Serve as the first line of defense in monitoring control adherence and data quality for the Allocations team. Investigate root causes of control exceptions and drive corrective actions.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for analysts on all allocation-related issues; identify root causes of recurring problems and drive them to resolution.
  • Provide day-to-day coaching, mentorship, and workflow guidance to analysts. Partner with the VP to identify skill gaps, support development opportunities, and provide primary feedback for the formal performance review process.
  • Build productive relationships with internal partners (front office, middle office, technology) to ensure smooth execution of the allocation process.
  • Drive small-scale process improvement and automation initiatives within the Allocations team, partnering with Technology to refine workflows.
