About The Position

The Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a 4-week residential summer program for skilled, knowledgeable, and talented high school sophomores and juniors. GHP offers instruction designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The instruction GHP provides is legislatively required to be significantly different from what is provided in a typical classroom. The Tech for Mathematics works collaboratively with the instructors to broaden students’ exposure to various branches of mathematics. The Math Tech assists with instructional activities, technology integration, and student projects. Courses are tailored to reflect the diversity of both students and mathematics and offer challenges to students within their knowledge base. Topics range from computer programming to proof-oriented courses to application-oriented courses but are all concentrated on techniques of problem solving.

Requirements

  • Background of coursework in mathematics education, statistics, computer science, engineering, or related field.
  • Experience working with gifted high school students.
  • High level of familiarity with mathematical technology and software.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with instructional activities, technology integration, and student projects.
  • Provides instruction assistance in the “major” discipline Monday – Saturday.
  • Provides instruction assistance in an elective area of study Monday-Friday.
  • Attends paid staff orientation and training sessions in advance of the summer program.
  • Works collaboratively with discipline specific department staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Participates in outside-of-class activities when directed.
  • Performs other assigned tasks related to the Governor’s Honors Program.
  • Assists in preparing unit plans and/or a syllabus and course overviews that reflect a rigorous and engaging curriculum.
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance.
