About The Position

The Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a 4-week residential summer program for skilled, knowledgeable, and talented high school sophomores and juniors. GHP offers instruction designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The instruction GHP provides is legislatively required to be significantly different from what is provided in a typical classroom.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; OR Master’s degree in human services field from an accredited college or university and three years directly related experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and five years directly related experience.
  • Experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, clinical psycho-social therapy, and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

  • Providing counseling and support services for gifted and talented high school students who are participants in the Governor’s Honors Program.
  • Providing initial assessments, as well as individual and group counseling as needed by the program.
  • Providing crisis intervention and on-call coverage as needed by the program.
  • Providing instruction in an elective area of study Monday-Friday.
  • Preparing unit plans and/or a syllabus and course overviews that reflect a rigorous and engaging curriculum for their elective.
  • Maintaining accurate records of attendance.
  • Being on a 24/7 rotational call schedule for the duration of the program.
  • Attending a paid virtual training session for new and returning staff on Saturday, March 20th.
  • Attending staff orientation in advance of the summer program.
  • Working collaboratively with discipline specific department staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Participating in outside-of-class activities when directed.
  • Performing other assigned tasks related to the Governor’s Honors Program.
