About The Position

Math Learning Assistants will support student learning in MATH 112, MATH 113, and MATH 135 by facilitating group work and active learning in class and holding drop-in tutoring hours. This student employment opportunity supports the development of skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Through this role, students will strengthen critical thinking, professionalism, communication, and leadership skills.

Requirements

• MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY
• Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter
• Applicants must have earned a B or better in the course they would assist or have successfully completed MATH 201.

Nice To Haves

• Priority consideration will be given to applicants who are Math Secondary Education or Middle Level Math Education majors.
• The cover letter must include a list of all hours the applicant is available to work as well as which of MATH 112, MATH 113, and MATH 135 the applicant is willing to assist.

Responsibilities

• Attending the assigned class
• Facilitating group work and active learning
• Guiding students with problem-solving in class
• Leading the class for short periods agreed upon in advance
• Meeting weekly with their assigned faculty member to discuss course content, plan for upcoming lessons, and reflect on previous activities
• Attending a weekly pedagogy seminar focusing on the principles and techniques of active learning
• Holding regular drop-in tutoring hours in the S102 Math Tutoring Center
