About The Position

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. The instructor will implement the specific aims of the College and Department by participating in developing and implementing campus and Department policies, procedures, and objectives, and annual goals for the department. They will maintain current credentials, teach assigned class sections, and use effective teaching techniques to motivate students. The instructor will provide necessary information to students, including syllabi, attendance/grade reports, and exams/assignments. They are required to set aside a minimum of 6 hours per week for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance. The position requires working a minimum of 35 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and verifying monthly the hours worked. The instructor will attend general faculty, division, and departmental meetings, and participate in student/teacher and faculty/administrator evaluations and performance review conferences. Developing personal and professional improvement plans is expected, as is participation in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities that enhance the individual and the education profession. Serving on committees as appointed, participating in the formulation, execution, and evaluations of departmental goals and objectives, and participating in the selection of textbook and library materials are also key responsibilities. The instructor must follow the required institutional process for recording student attendance and identifying ‘no-shows” in a timely manner, and participate in the establishment, assessment, and review of General Education Learning.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the field of Mathematics from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Candidates must submit transcripts (unofficial) with resume and/or CV, cover letter, and at least 2 letters of recommendation to the application process.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in developing and implementing of campus and Department policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Participating in developing, and implementing annual goals for the department.
  • Maintaining current credentials as required in respective field.
  • Teaching the number of class sections assigned according to Board policies.
  • Using teaching techniques that include the effective utilization of resources that motivate students to achieve their potential.
  • Providing necessary information about and for students. This information would include syllabi, attendance/grade reports, and class exams/ assignments.
  • Setting aside sufficient time for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance. (Minimum of 6 hours per week required.)
  • Working a minimum of 35 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and verify monthly the hours worked. (Less than full-time contractual faculty work a proportional workweek.)
  • Attending general faculty, division, and departmental meetings.
  • Participating in student/teacher and faculty/administrator evaluations and performance review conferences.
  • Developing personal and professional improvement plans in those areas deemed necessary as a result of evaluations.
  • Participating in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities which enhance the individual and the education profession but which do not interfere with teaching duties.
  • Serving on committees as appointed.
