About The Position

Woodberry Forest School seeks a mathematics faculty member for the 2027–2028 school year. The school is an all-boys, all-boarding community focused on developing lifelong learners with strong moral character. Faculty are expected to be passionate about their discipline and committed to supporting students beyond the classroom, including through athletics, afternoon activities, and residential life. More than 90 percent of faculty live on campus, and housing and meals for the faculty member and their family are part of the compensation. Teaching at Woodberry emphasizes high standards, lifelong learning, and helping students learn how to think. Courses build from mastery of subject fundamentals to critical, in-depth study. Classes meet four times each week: once for 45 minutes on Monday and three times for 55 minutes between Tuesday and Saturday. All students attend classes on Saturday mornings. Faculty also serve as advisors to a small group of students, acting as an initial contact for students and parents facing personal or academic challenges. Advisors share a weekly family-style dinner with their advisees. Faculty serve on dorm duty slightly less than once a week, helping ensure study hall is productive and spending time with students outside class. During two of the three trimesters, faculty serve as coaches, drama directors, or afternoon program advisors. New coaches are paired with experienced mentors. The position is based at Woodberry Forest School’s rural, 1,200-acre campus in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the Rapidan River. Faculty and their families can access campus amenities including a pool, two gymnasiums, squash and tennis courts, and a nine-hole golf course. The school’s culture emphasizes moral integrity, intellectual thoroughness, reverence for things sacred, good sportsmanship, and its student-run honor system. The salary range is $55,000–$85,000, with potentially higher salaries for exceptional, experienced candidates. Woodberry Forest School is an equal employment opportunity employer.
