About The Position

Pacifica's Core Beliefs and Approach to Teaching and Learning provide a framework for our identity, mission, purpose, and educational philosophy. This role involves teaching students to think and live well within this ethos. The faculty member is expected to embody deep and mature Christian faith, understand and value liberal arts education in a high school context, and effectively communicate the school's mission. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2-10+ years prior experience teaching in independent/private schools or at the college level
  • Capable of teaching all/most levels of the subject, demonstrating a mastery of current pedagogy
  • A sincere enjoyment of working with teenagers
  • Exceptionally capable in both written and oral communication
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Technologically savvy
  • Proven success at working collaboratively with colleagues
  • Passionate about the chosen field of study and the mission of Pacifica
  • A faculty member is a person of deep and mature Christian faith who values and understands the liberal arts within a high school context and can effectively communicate the mission of the school to their students and within their discipline.
  • The faculty member will exhibit integrity and honor, spiritual depth, exhibit enthusiasm and support for the advancement of the school, understand the various constituencies of Pacifica, communicate with warmth and understanding, work/lead within the various departments and programs, and work collaboratively with the faculty and staff to advance the school's efforts in achieving its mission.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing and designing curriculum, modifying and revising as necessary for accreditation and in response to analysis.
  • Submitting new coursework to the University of California for approval, with assistance from Department Chairs and the Dean of Academics.
  • Ensuring successful course approval by the College Board for all AP courses within the department.
  • Maintaining a disciplined learning environment in the classroom built on respect, grace, and passion for the subject.
  • Facilitating a challenging academic environment.
  • Maintaining an organization plan for each assigned course, including subject matter outlines and daily lesson plans.
  • Remaining faithful to the course outline and enriching curriculum whenever possible.
  • Committing to expertise and growth in discipline content and methodology.
  • Using technology to enhance student learning and achievement.
  • Completing grading within the cycle of assignment and updating homework and test results online in a timely manner.
  • Independently pursuing professional growth.
  • Executing all duties in a timely manner, including starting class on time, meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and submitting paperwork on time.
  • Seeking opportunities to promote a collegial, educational environment throughout the campus.
  • Maintaining communication with parents and responding within 24 hours.
  • Sustaining cordial, professional relationships with all students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Attending meetings and serving on committees as directed by administration.
  • Being eagerly involved in the Pacifica community outside of school hours.
  • Acting as a team player and willingly collaborating in the ongoing advancement of the school.
  • Attending Family Picnics, Athletic Activities, Performing Arts Events, and Open Houses.
  • Attending weekly Chapels and Assemblies.
  • Participating in the class overnight trip (All School Retreat).
  • Faithfully completing reasonable extra duty assignments, such as supervision, advisory/mentoring, and office hours.
  • Abiding by the spirit and policies in the Pacifica Faculty Handbook.
  • Holding self directly accountable to the chair of his/her department, Dean of Academics, Principal, and ultimately the Head of School.
  • Serving as an advisor (mentor) to one advisory group each academic year, meeting weekly with students, sitting with them at school meetings, earning their trust, praying for and with them, and communicating with parents as needed.
  • Embodying and promoting Pacifica's Core Beliefs and Approach to Teaching & Learning.
  • Wholeheartedly enjoying working with teenagers, championing their education, and encouraging their faith and Christian commitments.
  • Cultivating a vibrant culture of learning in and out of the classroom and contributing to a healthy professional working community.
  • Celebrating students by attending their co-curricular activities on occasion.
  • Arriving on-time, being well-prepared, acting professionally, and seeking to add value in every facet of the job while working collaboratively with colleagues and students to advance Pacifica's mission.
  • Attending and readily participating in Pacifica's annual overnight All-School Retreat as well as Admissions Open House(s), Back-to-School Night, and Commencement activities.
  • Contributing to the supervision of a reasonable number of after-school activities as needed.
