About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking to hire Mathematics tutors for the Fall 26/Spring 27 academic year. Mathematics tutors will provide support to undergraduate students in introductory, intermediate, and some advanced mathematics courses. Tutors may also have the opportunity to assist with statistics and computer programming courses if they are comfortable and proficient. This role is ideal for Duquesne Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, and Biomedical Engineering majors. The position offers flexible hours, a collaborative work environment, and the chance to improve one's own mathematical knowledge and skills while helping others. It is also a valuable addition to a resume and can expand a student's network with peers and faculty.

Requirements

• Be an undergraduate student at Duquesne.
• Have completed at least two of the following six courses with a letter grade of B+ or higher: Math 116 – Calculus II, Math 215 – Calculus III, Math 250 – Foundations of Higher Math, Math 301 – Introduction to Probability and Statistics I, Math 310 – Linear Algebra, Math 314 – Differential Equations.
• Have maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher across all Mathematics courses.
• Commit to being a tutor for the Fall26/Spring27 academic year at minimum.
• Upon request, provide a reference/referral from Duquesne Mathematics/Statistics faculty members who taught you in at least one course.
• Be confident in your understanding of concepts in low and mid-level Math courses, and confident that you can explain those concepts to tutees.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to undergraduate students in introductory, intermediate, and some advanced mathematics courses.
• Tutor some statistics and computer programming courses that you are comfortable with and proficient in.
• Be physically located on the 4th floor of College Hall when conducting online tutoring.
• Offer tutoring on M-T-W-TH-F with earliest start slot 9:00-9:30 am and latest start slot 4:30 pm-5:00 pm.
• Provide tutoring on the 4th floor of College Hall in the designated Tutoring room.
