About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking to hire Computer Science tutors for the Fall26/Spring27 academic year. Tutors will provide support to undergraduate students in introductory, intermediate, and some advanced computer science courses. Additionally, tutors may have the opportunity to assist with mathematics and statistics courses if they are comfortable and proficient. The role offers a friendly and collaborative work environment with flexible hours and flexible course coverage. It is considered a great opportunity for resume building, expanding networks, and improving one's own CS knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • Be an undergraduate student at Duquesne.
  • Have completed both COSC 160 – Computer Programming and COSC 215 – Data Structures in Java with a letter grade of B+ or higher.
  • Have maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher across all Computer Science courses.
  • Commit to being a tutor for the Fall26/Spring27 academic year at minimum.
  • Upon request, provide a reference/referral from Duquesne Computer Science faculty members who taught you in at least one course.
  • Be confident in your understanding of concepts in low and mid-level Computer Science courses, and confident that you can explain those concepts to tutees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to undergraduate students in introductory, intermediate, and some advanced computer science courses.
  • Tutor some mathematics and statistics courses that you are comfortable with and proficient in.
  • Be physically located on the 4th floor of College Hall when conducting online tutoring.
