About The Position

Integrity Educational Services is seeking a Math Tutor for Lighthouse Academy - South campus (full time). Integrity Educational Services (IES) is the non-profit educational service provider for Hope Academy of West Michigan and Lighthouse Academy. The role involves serving youth and adults in detention, correctional, or intervention-based programs, as well as community programs for court-placed students, English Language Learners (ELL), and students with Special Education needs. Hope Academy is a charter school in Grand Rapids, MI, serving a large population of ELL and Title I qualifying students. The Math Tutor will be accountable to the Principal and participate as a member of the school's academic team. The Tutor is responsible for developing students' academic skills, implementing curriculum, addressing specific educational needs, and providing feedback on student progress. The role requires subscribing to the vision, mission, and values of Integrity Educational Services and the applicable academy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with at-risk youth preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.
  • Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.
  • Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.

Responsibilities

  • Administers specific assessments and/or tests for the purpose of assessing the level of students’ competencies and determining student progress.
  • Determines need for interventions and sets schedule for those interventions.
  • Assists and supports staff to adhere to intervention plans of students.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses student progress, expectations, and goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration, and implementing intervention plans as a team.
  • Maintains appropriate records for the purpose of preserving the progress of the interventions in place.
  • Reports on such progress to the weekly RTI team on each student with an intervention plan.
  • Collaborates with a variety of parties (e.g. instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, achieving established program objectives, and/or planning curriculum.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Directs paraprofessionals, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instructs students using Tier 2 and Tier 3 math interventions to appropriate students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
  • Participates in and monitors students in a variety of educational environments and activities (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, sporting events, academic events, vocational events, motivational activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment and serving as a positive role model for students.
  • Participates in a variety of events (e.g. book studies, quarterly monitoring sessions, meetings, trainings, workshops, seminars, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Researches a variety of topics and/or teaching styles for the purpose of obtaining knowledge and/or information to utilize in the classroom setting.
  • Participates in and functions as a positive team member for the purpose of enhancing/sharing knowledge and skills for delivering best practices.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information, and/or direction.
  • Supports other teachers for the purpose of providing assistance, guidance, and/or aid to colleagues.
  • Supports second language learners for the purpose of students acquiring math and reading/literacy skills through appropriate strategies, activities, and material selection.
  • Assists with coverage of arrival, passing time, the eating area during breakfast/lunch, and dismissal from school.
  • Assists with test proctoring, as needed.
  • Coordinates/maintains a productive daily schedule for the purpose of completing reports, instructional activities, and other duties.
  • Structures time effectively; meets schedules and deadlines.
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned.
