About The Position

SmartStart Education is seeking a passionate and motivated individual to serve as a small group math tutor for middle school students in Brooklyn, NY. This role involves working with small groups of 1-4 students (grades 6th-8th) who are struggling with fundamental math skills. The tutoring will take place within a middle school setting, either as push-in or pull-out services. The tutor will be responsible for taking daily attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal device. This position offers a chance to make a positive impact on urban, working-class youth.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field.
• Demonstrated experience of at least one year in teaching or tutoring, either within a school environment or another educational setting.
• Mastery of middle school math concepts and skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
• Genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
• Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
• Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
• Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
• Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.

Responsibilities

• Work with small groups of 1-4 middle school students (grades 6th-8th) who are struggling with fundamental math skills.
• Provide tutoring services within the classroom (push-in) or outside of the classroom (pull-out).
• Take daily attendance.
• Monitor student progress using a personal device (mobile phone).
