About The Position

FlexTech High School - Shepherd is hiring a Full Time Math Teacher. The FlexTech High School network is growing. FlexTech High Schools are small, personalized high schools that offer project-based curriculum and flexible scheduling. We are looking for a dynamic educator to serve as a classroom teacher and join our wonderful team of educators. FlexTech teachers are passionate, adaptive, responsive, and innovative. Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and innovative Math teacher to join our team at FlexTech High School - Shepherd who wants to do school differently. This is not a traditional teaching role. FlexTech is a small, project-based high school built around strong relationships, real-world learning, and student independence. Our teachers act as advisors, mentors, and collaborators. They guide students through personalized, competency-based learning rather than delivering one-size-fits-all instruction. The ideal candidate believes all students can succeed in the right environment and is excited to design meaningful, project based learning experiences that connect to the real world. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to work closely with students in both small groups and one-on-one settings. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an appropriate secondary mathematics endorsement, or the ability to obtain certification in accordance with state requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary mathematics content and effective instructional practices.
  • Proficiency with educational technology, including learning management systems, Google Workspace, and other instructional technology tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Deliver engaging mathematics instruction that promotes conceptual understanding, problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world application.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to help students build mathematical confidence and achieve academic success.
  • Develop assessments and monitor student performance through a variety of methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, presentations, and formative assessments.
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations.
  • Supervise students and maintain a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share instructional strategies, and support school-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the school.

  • Plan, organize, and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions while supervising students and responding to changing classroom needs.
  • Analyze student performance data to monitor progress, identify learning needs, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Develop and adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse academic needs of students.
  • Maintain concentration while managing multiple tasks, interruptions, and competing priorities throughout the school day.
  • Interpret and apply curriculum standards, school policies, and instructional best practices.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional reflection to improve instructional practice.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, professionalism, and emotional regulation when interacting with students.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Apply trauma-informed and relationship-centered practices to support student learning, engagement, and well-being.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Maintain a calm, respectful, and student-centered approach when addressing challenging behaviors.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom culture where all students feel safe, valued, respected, and supported.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community partners to promote student success.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a growth mindset in response to the evolving needs of students and the school community.
