About The Position

The K–8 Math Specialist Teacher provides instructional leadership and support focused on strengthening mathematics instruction, curriculum implementation, and student achievement across grades kindergarten through eighth grade. The ideal candidate is passionate about student-centered learning, data-driven instruction, hands-on mathematics experiences, and problem-based learning aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The Math Specialist will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and instructional staff to ensure consistent implementation of high-quality math instruction, effective pacing, and targeted interventions that support student growth and achievement. This position will also coordinate district testing and submit associated reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Mathematics, or related area.
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in mathematics instruction preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of North Carolina mathematics standards and curriculum expectations.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting student assessment data.
  • Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and intervention practices.
  • Ability to move throughout school buildings and classrooms.
  • Ability to present information and conduct professional development sessions.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field.
  • Previous experience as an instructional coach, curriculum facilitator, or math interventionist.
  • Experience with school/district testing
  • Experience with problem-based learning and student-centered instructional practices.
  • Knowledge of MTSS frameworks and intervention systems.
  • Experience leading professional development for staff.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in K–8 mathematics instruction.
  • Ability to effectively disaggregate and use student data to improve instruction and student performance.
  • Understanding of curriculum alignment, instructional pacing, and assessment practices.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and collaborate effectively with staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Mathematics in grades K–8.
  • Collaborate with teachers to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes in mathematics.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of pacing guides, instructional resources, and curriculum alignment.
  • Analyze and disaggregate student assessment data to identify trends, instructional needs, and intervention opportunities.
  • Support data-driven instructional decision-making through regular review of benchmark, formative, and summative assessments.
  • Model effective mathematics instruction using hands-on learning, student discourse, and problem-based learning strategies.
  • Provide instructional coaching and professional development for teachers focused on best practices in mathematics instruction.
  • Support differentiation and intervention strategies to meet diverse learners' needs.
  • Assist with implementing MTSS/intervention supports related to mathematics achievement.
  • Promote student engagement through interactive, real-world mathematical experiences.
  • Collaborate with administration and instructional teams to monitor curriculum fidelity and pacing.
  • Participate in school-improvement planning and curriculum-review processes.
  • Maintain effective communication with teachers, administrators, students, and families.
  • Stay current on research-based instructional strategies and state math initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration
