About The Position
American Heritage School (AHS) is seeking a part-time Math Mentor for an online role, working 5-10 hours per week. This position is within a faith-centered private school environment that aligns with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Math Mentor will support students using the Math Academy platform, which offers personalized, mastery-based instruction across five math courses: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. Responsibilities include leading structured tutoring sessions, providing individualized guidance, and ensuring student progress toward mastery. The role emphasizes fostering intellectual, spiritual, and social growth in students, creating a learning environment that inspires confidence in math, encourages personal growth, and reflects Christian principles. The math program blends independent learning with structured group tutoring and individualized mentoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Comfortable with math through at least the Pre-Calculus level.
- At least two years of mentoring or tutoring experience, preferably within a formal educational setting.
- Genuine love for mentoring youth.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to explain math concepts clearly and adapt to each student's needs.
- Commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
- Enthusiasm, consistency, and professionalism.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth.
- Comfortable using online, adaptive learning platforms such as Math Academy.
- Professional in appearance and demeanor.
- Willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities
- Lead structured math tutoring sessions.
- Provide individualized, one-on-one math mentoring sessions.
- Support students working through the Math Academy online platform.
- Help students progress toward mastery in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus.
- Foster confidence and persistence in math.
- Help students work through misunderstandings.
- Monitor student progress within the platform.
- Grade student work when needed.
- Maintain collaborative, timely, and positive communication with students, parents, and staff.
- Integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate.
- Serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship.
- Support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school.
- Participate in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities.
- Respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making.
