About The Position

The Watertown Public Schools seeks an outstanding Math Interventionist to support with fostering high achievement through differentiated instruction, strategic assessment, and promotion of a growth mindset, while aligning with curriculum standards and utilizing Massachusetts Tiered System of Support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education strongly preferred.
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Elementary required, Mathematics 1-6 preferred.
  • SEI Endorsement
  • Deep understanding of K-5 Mathematics content and practice standards
  • Mathematics teaching experience in the elementary grades with a proven track record of promoting high achievement in the classroom
  • Experience differentiating math instruction for a range of learners, using techniques such as visual models, student discourse and opportunities to explain reasoning, instructional routines such as number talks, open-ended problems with multiple solution paths, and strategies for increasing engagement
  • Experience writing lesson plans with clear, attainable learning goals and aligned activities
  • Experience using a range of assessments to analyze student learning to inform instruction
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the developmental needs of elementary learners and strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum
  • Ability to identify and build on students’ strengths and interests in order to support the development of a growth mindset in math learners
  • Experience building computational fluency through conceptual understanding
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff, student body and community
  • Strong understanding of the Massachusetts Tiered System of Support (MTSS)
  • Strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel; instructional flexibility in order to meet students’ needs using effective strategies
  • Ability to be reflective and open to feedback

Responsibilities

  • Skillfully support student learning of Gr. K-5 Mathematics content and practice standards within tier 1, 2, and 3.
  • Empower and support diverse learners through individualized and small group math instruction.
  • Collect, manipulate and analyze student mathematics data
  • Collaborate with educators to effectively address student needs and improve instructional practice.
  • Incorporate a variety of assessment tools and strategies in order to inform and modify instruction, as well as target intervention and enrichment needs.
  • Participate in team meetings with grade level colleagues as assigned.
  • Participate in school and district wide professional development.
  • Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
