About The Position

This job description outlines the essential functions of the Materials Technician role. The purpose of this document is to provide a clear understanding of the job, its place within the organization, and the required skills and work expectations. The Materials Technician's primary responsibility is to assist the Materials Manager in stocking, labeling, and reconciling lost charges for medical supplies. This includes reconciling daily charges with supplies used and entering daily charges. The technician is responsible for monitoring and managing all supplies and ensuring accurate charging for supplies, services, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Materials Technician.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas.
  • Ability to understand communication of others with or without adaptive devices.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to read at an elementary level.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of and adherence to safety and legal requirements established at the facility.
  • Reports any accidents, injuries, and unsafe equipment and conditions to supervisor by the end of the shift.
  • Immediately reports and corrects, if possible, unsafe conditions or equipment.
  • Complies with relevant regulations, standards and policies governing safe workplace environment (OSHA, Accreditation, etc.).
  • Maintains current knowledge of all aspects of the facility’s safety program by attending safety-related training as mandated upon hire and thereafter as required by facility.
  • Follows the prescribed/recommended treatment given by treating physician(s) after an accident/injury.
  • Participates in required in-services and educational programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Follows all facility guidelines outlining standards of attendance and punctuality.
  • Responsible for reporting to and completing work at assigned times.
  • Universal precautions will be observed in order to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
  • The employee must have the ability to perform essential functions without posing a “direct threat” in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Materials and Central Supply within a hospital preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist as directed by Materials Manager in stocking, labeling and lost charge reconciliations of medical supplies.
