About The Position

Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Materials Specialist to join our surgical materials team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day. This role involves managing the materials inventory and distribution processes for the department, including managing inventory par levels for supplies and medical devices, and ordering replenishment quantities as needed. The specialist will partner with the department Coordinator to provide individualized service, using clinical knowledge to accurately interpret and meet materials needs. This includes reviewing the department schedule to determine supply, equipment, and implant needs, confirming these needs with key stakeholders, and placing orders directly with suppliers or through purchasing. The role ensures timely receipt and availability for scheduled, add-on, or emergency procedures, and may involve renting or borrowing items from vendors or other institutions. Responsibilities also include receiving delivered items, verifying documentation, entering data into the software system, and distributing products to storage locations. The specialist will follow up on back orders and product substitutions with Purchasing, communicate actions taken to stakeholders, and oversee vendor consigned inventories. Reconciliation of inventory and usage records, ensuring patient charge item usage is accounted for, and forwarding appropriate transaction information to Surgical Services patient billing are key duties. The role also involves working with department Coordinators and vendors to ensure FDA requirements for implant documentation are met, actively participating in the Value Analysis process, and assisting the Department Supervisor in maintaining materials databases. Regular inventory counts (daily replenishment, cycle audit, and annual inventories) will be conducted, with reports and recommendations on inventory levels provided.
