About The Position

A Materials Specialist will perform the basic functions of a Material Handler in addition to the Essential Job Functions. The incumbent is expected to support all company programs such as Lean, 5S, TPR, etc.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in ERP system.
  • Effective organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to prioritize customer requirements.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Must be able to pass forklift certification.
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Perform job functions in a safe manner.
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company Policy for the job being performed.
  • Know and follow established job specific and facility wide safety and health procedures and rules.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention or correct those you can.
  • Some material handlers that have been trained in hazardous waste management will be responsible for the safe transportation of hazardous waste materials (primarily paint related waste) from satellite accumulation areas to the hazardous waste compound. Material handlers handling hazardous waste material must be certified powered industrial truck operators. Material handlers involved in this process will receive introductory and annual training related to the following topics: hazards of hazardous waste generated at the site, safe handling methods for transportation, inspection methods of containers prior to transport, spill prevention methods to be utilized during transport and at hazardous waste compound, emergency procedures for spilled hazardous waste drum, proper labeling and dating of containers, storage requirements, spill reporting and emergency evacuation procedures, and containment procedures.

  • 1 year of experience as a Material Handler preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Outlook, and Excel)

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with Scheduler and Production Supervisor in their assigned area for the systematic and physical expediting of shortages, communicating and correcting any inventory discrepancies.
  • Monitors and physically secures both internal/external (manufactured or purchased) shortages communicating with the specific Buyer, Scheduler or Production Supervisor to expedite needs.
  • Performs all necessary inventory transactions required to support the receipt and issue of purchased or manufactured components. Sessions include but are not limited to: Generate, print and release outbound material issues, Print order documents and DVP, Enter inventory transactions (adjustments & transfers), Maintain locations by item, Expediting sessions (production orders, production planning, BOMs, routings, display fast input, display inventory transactions by item), RFID Scanning, Label software.
  • Works directly with the Scheduler and PIC Supervisor in POU data set-up and location maintenance, including rack maintenance.
  • Responsible for cycle counting, control counts, performing minor inventory reconciliation, and inventory record maintenance.
  • Monitors kanban stocking locations for re-order signals and expedites replenishment through the supplier if required.
  • Daily monitoring of POU inventory to proactively identify shortage items and potential inventory issues that may cause delays for manufacturing.
  • Confirms counts and verifies material specs on incoming material for plate steel and forwards to receiving for CX receipts.
  • Manages drop off inventory for effective material utilization.
  • Receives coil stock into consignment database and verifies appropriate Baan transactions are completed.
  • May operate forklift trucks, order pickers, overhead cranes, side-loaders, Combi-lift, jockey trucks, stacker cranes, or any other material handling equipment as necessary to lift, transport, store, and position a variety of raw, semi-finished, and purchased parts, components, materials, and items. Use of equipment based upon certifications.
  • Other duties as determined by supervision.
