The materials management specialist I coordinates, administers, implements and assists in developing the supply support system that operates efficiently and meets the needs of the patient and the site/organization. This role involves cleaning, preparing, and transporting medical equipment. The specialist requisitions, inspects, receives, and stocks inventory items for maintaining appropriate par levels, and assembles, repackages, or replenishes kits, components, and carts. They are responsible for replenishing supplies to ensure sufficient availability and may also assemble, disassemble, and label shelving and storage units. Regular pickup and delivery of medical equipment are required to ensure availability. The position involves operating computers and equipment, and ensuring effective and efficient utilization of Lawson MMIS, product utilization evaluations, and managing product changes as directed. The specialist recommends effective min/max levels and critical order points, resolves zero picks, and daily monitors critical supply levels to prevent shortages. They also monitor supplies for proper labeling, expiration dates, and packaging integrity, and recommend various cost controls over stock inventories. Coordination of requisitions, receipts, and returns for assigned areas is done using established policies. Communication with vendors, physicians, nurses, patients, and peers at other healthcare facilities is a key aspect of the role. The specialist participates in product evaluations and changes and may assist with new-employee orientation, computerization training, and provide guidance to buyers or other support staff.
