About The Position

The Materials Manager will be responsible for managing the Business Unit's (BU) raw material inventory levels and aging inventory performance, aligning with BU directives. This role involves setting inventory targets and achieving them through effective controls and collaboration with relevant departments. The position also ensures sufficient materials are ordered based on MRP requirements to meet customer demands and forecasts, and proactively addresses excess/obsolete material exposures. Additionally, the Materials Manager is responsible for supplier selection, ensuring business legitimacy, compliance with prohibited parties lists, and valid certifications. They will manage supplier business screens and performance scorecards annually, set and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), manage problematic supplier invoices (IQL), and ensure timely purchasing for New Product Implementation (NPI) parts. The role requires providing professional support for ongoing and new projects as needed by BU management. The Materials Manager ensures material availability on the shop floor for continuous production, manages component forecasts with suppliers, PO placement, and inventory levels, and establishes effective communication within the Materials group and with the wider BU and factory. As part of the site Management team, they will act as a team member, be aware of business issues, potentially deputize for other staff, and participate in customer visits. The role includes administering the appraisal system for the Materials Group, conducting Training Needs Analysis and Succession Planning, and ensuring employee development. Key measurements include forecast coverage, material shortages, raw material inventory and aging, and raw material excess & obsolete inventory.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in management.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Materials.
  • Knowledge of MRP / ERP systems.
  • Advanced user of Word, Excel PC software.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, QS9000, ISO 14001.
  • Knowledge of FMEA, APQP, QSA, MSA, and SPC.
  • Good communication, presentation, verbal, managerial, logical, organizing & problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team.
  • Must be able to think visually.
  • Must be responsible for others' work.
  • Must have a good command of written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Manage BU raw material inventory levels and aging inventory performance.
  • Set inventory targets and achieve them through effective controls and inter-departmental collaboration.
  • Ensure sufficient materials are ordered based on MRP requirements to meet customer demands and forecasts.
  • Address and eliminate excess/obsolete material exposures in a timely manner.
  • Manage material shortages, forecast/commit process, and related activities.
  • Ensure all suppliers are legitimate, not on prohibited parties lists, and possess required certifications.
  • Manage supplier business screens and performance scorecards annually.
  • Ensure KPIs are set, followed up, and results align with expectations.
  • Eliminate exposures related to problematic supplier invoices (IQL) in a timely manner.
  • Ensure timely purchasing for New Product Implementation (NPI) parts.
  • Provide professional support for ongoing and new projects as required by BU management.
  • Ensure the supply of materials is available on the shop floor for continuous production.
  • Manage component forecast with suppliers, PO placement, and inventory levels to meet BU demand.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with all members of the Materials group and ensure awareness of issues within the Group, BU, and Factory.
  • Act as a team member within the site Management team, being aware of all business issues affecting the company.
  • Potentially deputize for another staff member or the Plant Manager in internal and/or external capacities.
  • Participate during customer visits and presentations.
  • Administer the agreed structured appraisal system for all employees within the Materials Group.
  • Conduct Training Needs Analysis and Succession Planning, and ensure ongoing Employee Development.
  • Responsible for the measurements of: FORECAST COVERAGE, MATERIAL SHORTAGES, RAW MATERIAL INVENTORY AND AGING INVENTORY, RAW MATERIAL EXCESS & OBSOLETE INVENTORY.
