About The Position

This role involves maintaining supplies, equipment, and materials for the daily operation of the surgery center. It includes supervising record-keeping for ordering, receiving, and payment processing of requisitions and purchase orders, as well as maintaining automated systems for materials management. The position also coordinates physical inventory, completes mandatory bi-annual reporting, monitors savings opportunities, coordinates product evaluations, maintains savings logs, performs cost analysis, and collaborates with physicians on product evaluations. Additionally, the role oversees activities to ensure the availability of necessary instruments and prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Responsibilities include pre-operation preparations such as setting up instruments, drapes, and solutions, preparing the patient's skin, assembling and checking equipment, assisting the surgical team with sterile gowns and gloves, passing instruments, holding retractors, cutting sutures, counting supplies, preparing and disposing of specimens, applying dressings, operating sterilizers and other equipment, transferring patients to recovery, and cleaning and restocking the operating room. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years' experience as a scrub technician in an operating room setting, preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in all phases of materials management, including the ability to assist with the composition and administration of department budget.
  • Experience as buyer in medical materials management or a as senior buyer, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the supplies, equipment, and all materials for the daily operation of the surgery center.
  • Supervising the maintenance of accurate records associated with the ordering, receiving and processing for payment all requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Maintaining the automated systems to support the materials management functions.
  • Coordinating physical inventory and completes the mandatory reporting bi-annually at the facility.
  • Monitoring savings opportunities, coordinates product evaluations, maintains savings logs, performs cost analysis and works closely with physicians in product evaluations.
  • Overseeing all of the activities to assure the availability of necessary instruments.
  • Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
  • Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment.
  • Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjust and check it to ensure it is working properly.
  • Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
  • Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.
  • Hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
  • Help prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and help apply dressings.
  • Operate sterilizers, lights, or suction machines, and help operate diagnostic equipment.
  • After an operation, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
