About The Position

The Materials Management Manager plays a vital role in ensuring Ocean Beach Health has the materials, supplies, and equipment needed to deliver exceptional patient care. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this position oversees all procurement activities, vendor relationships, inventory systems, and materials management operations across the hospital and clinics. This leader ensures compliance with purchasing policies, maintains cost‑effective procurement practices, and supports departments through reliable, timely, and accurate supply management. The Purchasing Manager is central to maintaining smooth operations, strong interdepartmental communication, and a high standard of service.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in business or related field or 3–5 years of management experience, preferably in a healthcare facility.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate suppliers and determine best value.
  • Effective decision‑making skills with the ability to select needed products efficiently.
  • Solid math skills for comparing pricing and ensuring cost‑effective purchasing.
  • Excellent negotiating skills, interpersonal confidence, and vendor communication abilities.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Directing all departmental activities related to procurement, inventory control, receiving, storage, distribution, duplicating, and mail transport.
  • Reviewing, evaluating, and approving purchase orders and non‑stock purchase requests.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with all departments to understand specifications, needs, and supply requirements.
  • Negotiating contracts and serving as the primary contact for vendors and distributors.
  • Providing administrative support to the CFO through reports, budgets, supply utilization analysis, and capital expenditure management.
  • Managing PAR level systems and ensuring adequate supply levels throughout the organization.
  • Leading the Product Evaluation Committee and coordinating product assessments.
  • Ensuring safe practices for receiving hazardous substances and assisting departments with Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Coordinating leases for large‑ticket items and maintaining emergency supply sources.
  • Interviewing sales representatives, reviewing vendor performance, and soliciting proposals for supplies and equipment.
  • Supervising department staff through hiring, training, coaching, development, and evaluations.
  • Contributing to a culture of patient‑centered care, safety, teamwork, and financial stewardship.
  • Maintaining regular and punctual attendance and responding to emergencies as needed.
