The Culinary Operations department is an integral part of this innovative approach with a focus on consistent and efficient preparation of high-quality, delicious, and nutritious food products, food safety, and stellar customer service. The Materials Management Assistant will assist the materials management team to ensure efficient receiving, outbound, and inventory management of all products at DC Central Kitchen. This position will report directly to the Materials Manager and will work closely with the Transportation and Procurement teams. The Materials Management Assistant will perform a critical role in ensuring that department goals are successfully achieved while offering administrative, operational, and logistical support. The Assistant will make certain all administrative responsibilities are completed with accuracy and issues are effectively communicated to appropriate team members and outside clients. This position requires strong organizational and customer service skills, as well as independent judgment that is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a wide range of responsibilities. A strong commitment to DC Central Kitchen’s mission as well as the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues, students, visitors, customers, and members of the community are highly essential.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in a related field
  • Current ServSafe® certification
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of HACCP programs and regulations
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Ability to work independently
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and a commitment to the mission and values of DC Central Kitchen
  • Pre-employment drug screen, background check, and TB Test are required.

Responsibilities

  • Meet vendors as deliveries come in; facilitate receiving process by checking quality of all products, check for any missing or shorted items based on invoices.
  • Ensure any short is noted on the invoice by driver and dcck staff.
  • Bring all invoices to the Lead and/or Manager.
  • Communicate with lead via Teams when vendors arrive and communicate on any shorts or quality issues.
  • Label as needed and put away all products in designated storage spaces.
  • Specifically label all cases of Chicken with their receive date.
  • Organize Dry Storage areas according to the shelf labels and FIFO procedures.
  • Organize Cooler walk-ins areas according to the shelf labels and FIFO procedures.
  • Organize Freezer according to the shelf labels and FIFO procedures.
  • Check quality of products and notify lead of any items spoiled or near spoilage.
  • Clean all storage areas daily.
  • Clean loading dock and hallways.
  • Monitor doors and ensure all fridge, freezer and external doors are kept closed at all times.
  • Pull product as needed for production teams.
  • Pull product for Healthy corners production using pull sheets provided by lead.
  • Return unused products from daily production, switch label from program date to “Use First” opening items up for available inventory.
  • Pull product from Freezer to thaw.
  • Stage and label products for outbound DCPS delivery the next day using Delivery Sheets.
  • Pull DCPS and private Carts and whole cases out to drivers in the morning as well as any additional items such as FFVP or any other item noted by lead.
  • Receive Donations and label donations and communicate to lead that donations have arrived on teams.
  • Be available on teams to answer questions, as needed, relating to products from procurement or kitchen teams throughout shift.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required to maintain quality relationships with all our partners and customers and / or duties and tasks needed to drive the vision, mission, and values of DC Central Kitchen.
