About The Position

The Materials Lead tracks product information to keep businesses and supply chains on schedule for production lines. The role ensures proper scheduling and record keeping for materials moved within operations and participates in receiving, issuing, and delivering materials, equipment, and supplies. It works independently with limited supervision and leads and coordinates employees involved in material movement across operational areas.

The role may include tracking merchandise with handheld scanners, checking materials and supplies, verifying the quantity and quality of items provided to production lines, reviewing complex work procedures, and designing and overseeing material-storage layouts. Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate subordinates involved in moving materials across different operational areas.
• Ensure proper scheduling and record keeping for materials moved within the operations area.
• Compile reports on production changes that affect material feeds to production lines.
• Find, sort, or move goods between different parts of the business.
• Oversee workers’ schedules, estimate costs, track materials, and write special orders for new materials.
• Perform general office tasks, such as entering data or distributing mail.
• Receive and unpack materials and use handheld scanners to track merchandise within production areas, as needed.
• Weigh, measure, check, sample, and record materials, supplies, and equipment entering the operations area, as needed.
• Verify the quantity and quality of items supplied to production lines, check for defects, and record findings, as needed.
• Review difficult or complex work procedures to resolve questions from workers.
• Design material-storage layouts and oversee rearrangement processes.
• Use computerized or automated systems to accomplish tasks, as needed.
