About The Position

This is a full-time position operating from 3 PM to 11 PM, Monday through Friday. The role includes an additional $2.00/hour shift differential pay. The Materials Handler operates equipment to move finished product for shipping or storage, supplies the Manufacturing Department with materials as needed, and stages product for movement or shipment. Responsibilities also include racking unused supplies and maintaining an inventory of items, transporting and processing manufacturing paper by-products, and emptying trash hoppers. The role involves performing routine daily inspections on hoists and reporting maintenance needs. Depending on the specific needs, duties may include battery service for electrical leads and truck parts, and changing LP/Propane. The position requires adherence to and promotion of all safety policies and procedures, including hazardous waste handling, lock out-tag out rules, and the use of hearing and eye protection. Other related duties and participation in special projects may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must know how high, wide, and long the fork lift truck and its load are, and how much the fork lift truck can lift
  • Ability to identify how high and wide a doorway and an aisle must be to drive the fork lift truck and its load; how high and wide the shelf, bin, etc., must be to place the load; and how high the load must be lifted to reach the shelf or bin
  • Knowledge of the layout of the storage area to be able to find and place items without need for detailed instructions
  • Skilled in moving fork lift trucks about in places where there is very little room to stack or remove loads
  • Greater knowledge and skill than Hoist Operator 1 in the handling of controls for driving fork lift and/or clamp trucks
  • Must be skilled in handling controls for starting, stopping, backings, and driving fork lift trucks through narrow aisles in building, up and down ramps, and in and out of railroad cars, trucks, etc.; and, for lifting, lowering, and tilting forks by moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate controls
  • Must be able to recognize whether the fork lift truck is able to lift the load and whether the load is properly balanced

  • May include battery service duties such as inspecting, recharging and replacing batteries of electrical leads and battery poles and lubricating truck's moving parts
  • May include changing LP/Propane
  • Adheres to and promotes all safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to the proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out-tag out rules and hearing and eye protection policies
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned
