About The Position

Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Materials Handler to join our Corporate Services & Communication team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to safely provide our customers with the safe, reliable, and affordable energy they depend on. The Materials Handler, with limited supervision, receives, stores, retrieves, and issues electrical utility materials, tools, supplies, and equipment; they use a computerized Enterprise Resource Planning system to accurately record all materials movement transactions; develop and maintain indoor and outdoor storage areas; maintain organization, cleanliness and 5S Standards within facility and daily workspace; and ensures a safe working environment through regular safety inspections and cleaning and maintenance of all storage and work areas and equipment. They must work in a team-oriented environment with high focus on customer satisfaction. The work is performed in both a warehouse and yard environment, which involves working with chemicals, equipment, hand and power tools, and material that requires special handling, storage, and packaging due to exposure to potential environmental and safety hazards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 years of materials handling experience, including forklift utilization and inventory management software system experience
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR card and Idaho Power forklift certification within 30 days
  • Forklift certification requirements by location include rough terrain, counterbalance and narrow aisle certifications
  • Complete DOT PHMSA 49 CFR Part 172 required hazardous materials employee training.
  • Depending on location, must pass an Alcohol Tobacco Firearms (ATF) 27 CFR Part 555 background check and be authorized as an Employee Possessor under IPC’s permit to handle explosives.
  • Additional safety related training as required.
  • Requires limited overnight travel to other facilities within the Company warehouse network and be available for after-hours on-call emergency response.
  • Knowledge of proper and safe handling, loading/unloading, moving, storing, and shipping of materials

  • Bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, reaching and occasional crawling or lying on ground to handle material and or inspect/operate forklift.
  • Frequent floor to waist lifting of up to 60 lbs.
  • Push/pull initiation force of up to 150 lbs. for carts.
  • Step ladder is used for higher placed items.
  • Two-person team lifts are required for material or containers that can weigh up to 200 lbs.
  • Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation, the Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certificate exam.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of warehouse materials handling experience in the last 5 years including forklift and inventory management or ERP system experience
  • Idaho Power certification to operate forklifts and manlifts, First Aid/CPR card, or DOT PHMSA 49 CFR Part 172 hazardous materials training at time of hire

Responsibilities

  • Attends required safety trainings and obtains and wears company provided and approved safety footwear and PPE.
  • Performs additional tasks assigned by company leaders or management.
