About The Position

Under general supervision, receives, stores, issues, and maintains inventory of materials, supplies, parts, tools, and equipment used in the hospital and ambulatory clinics. Loads, unloads, and delivers materials and supplies to appropriate departments or required locations. May be in charge of a specialized stockroom located on clinical floors with wide variety and number of items. For stockroom is responsible for the receiving, checking of merchandise, performing inventories, replenishment of supplies, and establishing stock levels.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in warehouse receiving, ordering, stock clerk, and inventory.
  • Must be available to work day and swing shifts, seven (7) days a week, as needed.
  • Knowledge of methods and practices of storing and issuing materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of inventory control record keeping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of units of weights and measures and standard terminology.
  • Knowledge of suppliers of materials required by the department to which assigned.
  • Knowledge of medical supplies and brand names.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of infection control and disinfection of equipment.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and associated software applications.
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of tools related to the work.
  • Knowledge of business arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of record keeping principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of patients rights.
  • Skill in performing accurate storage and issuance of materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate inventory control records.
  • Skill in safely using and maintaining hand and power tools and material handling equipment related to the work.
  • Skill in using proper handling procedures for contaminated equipment.
  • Skill in making accurate arithmetic calculations.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
  • Skill in efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
  • Mobility to work in a typical stores or warehouse setting, including the operation of standard office equipment.
  • Stamina to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Strength to lift and maneuver equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment.
  • Vision to read printed materials including a VDT screen.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.
  • Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent (within past 5 years) documented material handling/warehouse experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Current forklift certification may be required for some positions.
