The Materials Data Systems Engineer provides technical stewardship of the MAPTIS system in support of the engineering community’s access to and use of materials data. Responsibilities include: Monitoring system performance, data integrity, and technical health of the MAPTIS platform in support of engineering users. Partnering with engineering staff to document and preserve institutional knowledge related to data organization, historical context, and retrieval methods, in direct support of the department’s knowledge preservation objectives. Contributing subject matter expertise to the department’s digital transformation initiative, including requirements definition for improved data discoverability and search capability. Assist in defining technical requirements for API/integration interfaces between MAPTIS and other engineering data sources as integration priorities are identified. Identify and document technical constraints or limitations in the current MAPTIS architecture that affect data discoverability, integration readiness, or scalability, contributing findings to the department’s diagnostic and foundation-building activities. Serve as technical liaison between engineering staff and software development personnel, helping translate functional requirements into technical specifications. Participate in requirement definition activities for future software/systems within the department, representing the technical/system perspective alongside the engineering perspective. Provide technical support for pilot integration efforts, including access control configuration and technical troubleshooting during pilot phases.
