About The Position

As a Materials Coordinator for PCL Industrial Management Inc. in North Vancouver, British Columbia, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to our team by collaborating with internal and external groups to expedite materials, construction equipment, and services and ensure all procedural and system requirements are met.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and/or working towards a postsecondary diploma/degree in a related discipline (e.g., supply chain management, procurement, logistics, warehouse distribution).
  • 3 years of progressive and related industry experience in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, and/or warehouse distribution preferred.
  • General construction knowledge; understands specifications, drawings, bills of material, methods and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used construction materials, permanent/ nonpermanent materials, services, tools, and equipment.
  • Awareness of project logistics, toolcrib setup, and organization and best practices.
  • Basic understanding of supply chain process, project life cycle, materials management best practices, PCL procedures, and risk.
  • Strong verbal and written (expression and comprehension) communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, and diplomatically.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong drive, time management, and sense of urgency. Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding and the application of critical thinking skills in the following areas: problem solving, judgement and decision making, job task planning and organizing, finding information, significant use of memory.
  • Demonstrates leadership, identifies areas for change, works with others to solve problems, develops others, and holds themselves and others accountable.
  • Work location mobility often required.
  • Strong computer literacy; experience with relevant tools and technology (software and hardware); will be key user of programs and may be required to train and coach others.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in training and mentoring other material coordinators and tradespeople on department procedures, project plans and systems.
  • Assists with toolcrib supervision, set up and organization of temporary facilities and tool management systems.
  • Completes assigned entries into the material/tool management systems.
  • Creates requisitions and blanket order releases for temporary materials and services.
  • Submits approved requisitions to procurement for action and blanket order releases to supplier for action.
  • Proactively expedites requisition approvals, outstanding or overdue orders, schedules deliveries and resolves material discrepancies with suppliers/ procurement client to meet project schedule requirements. Dispatches carriers for shipments.
  • Completes material received reports (MRR) and overages, shortages and damages (OS&D) transactions for temporary, permanent materials and equipment. Identifies and resolves OS&D issues and provides required notifications to project team as items are received. Coordinates resolution of OS&D’s with project team, procurement and supplier as required.
  • Completes inventory system transactions and assists the project team with periodic reviews of minimum /maximum stocking levels for temporary materials. Requests toolcrib and warehouse craft to perform periodic cycle counts. Identifies issues of loss/theft from inventory, ongoing and suspect damages to PCL owned tools and equipment, space concerns, etc. to materials team for resolution and/or escalation.
  • Completes preservation, preventative maintenance (PM), and certification transactions. Coordinates preventative maintenance, service, repair and recertifications.
  • Completes issuing/pick ticket system transactions.
  • Provides instruction/ processes to materials tradespeople to properly inventory, package, tag and label temporary items and construction equipment for shipment. Assists with identifying excessive inventory levels that can be returned for credit.
  • Manages material documentation in alignment with project plans.
  • Generates, distributes and files assigned reports. Identifies new reports that add value to project or district.
  • Prepares for and participates in internal/external compliance audits as required.
