About The Position

This job assumes responsibility for and will function in a capacity that will foster and maintain an effective relationship between the surgical team and Materials Management Division; and plans, organizes, manages and controls activities related to Operating Room inventory management. Manages the tracking of inventory under the Unit Director of OR Services from acquisition to use or disposal. Develops, implements, and monitors strategies for supply cost reduction and utilization management. Assumes administrative responsibility for the development, implementation and management of the Lawson Inventory system for the OR. Assumes responsibility for managing the supply inventory within the Surgical Information System and maintain accurate and up to date inventory and billing procedures in SSI.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years experience in a supervisory or management role in a health care materials management setting.
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
  • PC skills with the ability to manage a pre-programmed database
  • Knowledge of medical products
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time management skills and self directed
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Additional degrees, business training experience and/or certifications may be combined to meet minimum qualifications.
  • Bachelor's degree and supervisory or management experience in health care materials management may be combined to meet minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains an effective Supply Management system.
  • Provides effective management of processes for OR Supply, Inventory Control and Receiving.
  • Assures proper implementation and maintenance of the Lawson Supply Management System as it pertains to the OR.
  • Assures proper maintenance of the supply database and preference cards within SIS
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
  • Complies with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
