About The Position

The Cath Lab Coordinator is responsible for coordinating daily workflow and patient throughput within the cardiac catheterization laboratory. This role ensures efficient communication between clinical staff, physicians, and support departments while maintaining real-time updates of procedure schedules and patient status. This position plays a critical role in optimizing lab utilization, minimizing delays, and supporting high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • One of the following required within 12 months (1 year) of hire or transfer date: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Alabama
  • Registered or credentialed Cath Lab Technologist (preferred: ARRT, RCIS, or equivalent)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing, radiology or surgical tech program OR If a surgical technologist, would consider high school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of surgical tech experience in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, or procedural setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cardiac cath lab, procedural scheduling, or patient flow coordination preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the Cath Lab procedure board with accurate, real-time information regarding patient status, procedure progress, and room availability
  • Coordinate patient flow from pre-op to procedure rooms and post-procedure recovery areas
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, technologists, anesthesia, and ancillary departments (e.g., transport, lab, radiology)
  • Monitor daily schedule and adjust as needed to accommodate emergencies, add-on cases, or delays
  • Ensure all required documentation, consents, and pre-procedure requirements are completed prior to patient arrival in the lab
  • Track case start and end times to support operational efficiency and reporting
  • Assist with prioritization of cases based on clinical urgency and physician direction
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and proactively escalate issues to leadership
  • Support compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
