Lockheed Martin (MFC) is seeking a Materials Engineer to support the Orlando, FL site. The engineer will be working in the Applied Research optical-materials lab. This position offers immersive experience in a research environment where cutting‑edge optical‑device technologies are developed for aerospace and defense applications. The engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design, micro‑ and nano‑scale fabrication, and characterization of photonic engineered components, including meta-optics, photonic integrated circuits, and quantum optical devices. Candidate must be proficient in full wave simulation design, including but not limited to Python/Julia, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, Zemax OpticStudio, Lumerical FDTD, COMSOL Multiphysics. For the nano/micro-fabrication work, the applicant should be experienced with lithography and 3D laser write systems. The role also involves extensive material‑characterization activities that span optical, structural, and mechanical domains. This position provides valuable exposure to the full product‑development lifecycle, from material selection and prototype fabrication to performance validation and documentation.
