Materials Analyst, Microscopy (XSEM)

Eurofins•Milpitas, CA
•$80,000 - $95,000

About The Position

Eurofins EAG Laboratories is seeking a Materials Analyst to join the Advanced Microscopy team’s XSEM (Cross-Section Scanning Electron Microscopy) Engineering group. This hands-on, production-focused role centers on SEM imaging, sample preparation cross-sectioning, and micro cleaving to support advanced materials and semiconductor analysis for clients across multiple industries. The analyst will contribute technically in a fast-paced laboratory, use specialized tools, and deliver high-quality, site-specific results within client timelines. The role involves working with multiple client samples while maintaining internal quality and security standards and meeting turnaround commitments. The analyst works with teammates to improve workflows and consistent output, and collaborates with internal analytical teams and, as needed, clients to understand analysis requirements and standardized procedures. The position offers focused instrument time and exposure to advanced materials and semiconductor technologies. The schedule is Wednesday through Saturday, 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., four 10-hour days. Physical requirements include occasional movement around the office or laboratory, extended operation of a computer or laboratory equipment, repetitive use of hands, arms, and shoulders, and remaining stationary for most of the workday. The role also requires the ability to communicate clearly, maintain focus, learn and remember processes, work independently, make timely workflow decisions, and complete tasks in a quota- or productivity-driven environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Hands-on SEM experience, or strong academic or early-industry exposure demonstrating the ability to independently execute sample-preparation workflows.
  • Working knowledge of electron microscopy principles, including SEM.
  • General understanding of semiconductor device physics and failure analysis, gained through coursework, laboratory work, or prior industry experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven laboratory environment.
  • Ability to meet the described physical and communication requirements, including extended computer or lab-equipment operation and remaining stationary for 90% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced SEM imaging or sample-preparation experience.
  • Prior experience supporting a high-throughput or production laboratory environment.
  • Clear and timely technical communication with internal teams and external clients.

Responsibilities

  • Operate scanning electron microscopes and use appropriate sample-preparation techniques to provide high-quality client data.
  • Manage multiple client samples while adhering to internal quality and security standards and turnaround commitments.
  • Work with the team to optimize workflows, improve efficiency, and maintain consistent output.
  • Collaborate with internal analytical teams and, as needed, clients to understand analysis requirements and standardized procedures.
  • Perform SEM imaging, sample-preparation cross-sectioning, and micro cleaving in support of materials and semiconductor analysis.
