About The Position

The Material Planner is responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support the production plan. This role involves ordering Serial Production parts from vendors/suppliers in the correct quantities and at the correct times to meet production demand. The planner will work with suppliers to expedite or defer materials based on changes in customer requirements and to meet production and inventory objectives. They will also communicate demand forecasts to suppliers, identify and escalate potential issues impacting production or delivery timelines, and collaborate with the sourcing department to ensure component part availability for build schedules. Additionally, the role includes coordinating outside process orders, managing Part Master files for the Materials Requirements Planning system, and analyzing supplier performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or minimum five years manufacturing experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, SAP and/or AS400 strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge in Lean Production and Continuous Improvement.
  • Ability to effectively communicate amongst multiple departments in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner.
  • Experience developing and implementing inventory control/supply chain strategies.
  • Use MRP II, CAD, Shop Floor Control, Capacity Planning, MO Maintenance, Microsoft Excel, Word and other software.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support the production plan.
  • Ordering all Serial Production parts from vendors/suppliers in correct QTY and to correct time to meet production demand.
  • Working with suppliers to expedite or defer materials as dictated by changes in internal and external customer requirements and to meet production and inventory objectives.
  • Communicating near-term and mid-range demand forecasts with suppliers to ensure material availability.
  • Identifying and escalating issues that may impact production or customer delivery timelines.
  • Working with the sourcing department to ensure all component parts are available to meet start date build schedules.
  • Coordination of outside process orders including the creation, monitoring, tracking, and occasional expediting of phantom purchase orders. Handling all aspects in the proper preparation of shipments including packing and documentation for outside processes.
  • Using and maintaining Part Master files to support Materials Requirements Planning system fabrication requirements and on time delivery to customers.
  • Managing lead times, safety stock levels, and reorder points for assigned materials.
  • Working with Engineering to provide material analysis for change cut-ins dates and coordinate all new product introductions.
  • Facilitating problem resolutions with Accounts Payable related to purchase orders/ invoicing and pricing.
  • Analyzing supplier performance and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
