About The Position

The Material Handling B Operator is responsible for accurately receiving, verifying, and accepting shipments of parts and supplies, maintaining all assigned records, and preparing outgoing goods for prompt and accurate shipment. This role also involves locating, physically counting, and staging inventory to maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure a smooth flow of materials throughout the facility. The operator will move materials between departments and into inventory as required, load and unload all trucks, and may be required to replace a short haul driver. The position supports the continual improvement and compliance of QMS and EMS and requires performing job functions in a manner that supports TriMark's mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of parts and materials used in manufacturing operations.
  • Some blueprint reading ability.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and any special instructions related to receiving parts and supplies, shipping to customers, and returning of any goods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and help train new hires within the department.
  • Ability to work closely with CRS, Procurement, and P&IC.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, vendors, and freight lines concerning dates, quantities, and purchase orders.
  • Ability to give directions and track product.
  • Ability and knowledge to move material from one department to another to meet operational flow.
  • Ability to work accurately performing PC functions, mathematical calculations/conversion, and scale operations.
  • Knowledge of the parts numbering system, inventory control procedures, and the various operations and departments which produce or modify parts.
  • Knowledge of the location of various production stations where parts are being used and the appropriate production state of each part.
  • Ability to recognize parts and their corresponding part numbers.
  • Ability to do multiple tasks and work with frequent interruptions.

  • Determine accuracy and general quality of goods received and signed for.
  • Determine accuracy and general quality of goods loaded for outbound shipment.
  • Recognize and reconcile discrepancies and realize when assistance from Supervisor/Coordinator is required.
  • Ensure records are completed accurately and completely, following through to obtain corrected information.
  • Ensure customer and supplier data is properly inputted into the system for prompt delivery and payment of orders.
  • Recognize when trailers are not safe to load/unload product and realize when assistance is required from other resources.
  • Recognize when special handling is required when off-loading raw materials, chemicals, or oversized freight.
  • Establish the location of parts in a minimum amount of time.
  • Recognize safe pallet storage, such as wrapping, ensuring the pallet is not broken/damaged, and the pallet adequately fits in the rack minimizing overhang.
  • Ability to prioritize: Ensuring requests and needs are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Communication: Knowing when to communicate and to whom, ability to communicate with clear and accurate data.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately receive, verify, and accept shipments of parts and supplies.
  • Maintain all assigned records in a current and complete status.
  • Prepare all outgoing goods for prompt and accurate shipment according to established procedures and timetables for sales orders and subcontract jobs.
  • Prepare outgoing subcontract goods for prompt and accurate shipment according to established procedures, timetables, and special instructions.
  • Locate, physically count, and perform cycle counts of parts to maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Locate and stage inventory as required for production.
  • Move material from one department to another to meet operational flow or locate into inventory.
  • Responsible for moving and locating materials throughout the plant.
  • Load and unload all trucks.
  • Unload and accept shipments, verify received shipments against purchase orders, and notify Supervisor of discrepancies.
  • Verify received shipments against BOL and notify supervisor/coordinator of discrepancies.
  • File freight claims and notify all concerned parties if necessary.
  • Load outbound shipments and verify units loaded with the carrier.
  • Notify supervisor of any discrepancies during loading.
  • Review freight nightly to ensure all pick-ups were made and notify CSR and carriers of missed pick-ups.
  • Keep accurate job records by entering components, finished goods, and their traceability into inventory.
  • Perform visual checks during daily duties and notify QA of any problems.
  • Check messaging system and act accordingly to ensure non-stoppage in production areas, which may include dumping scrap steel, providing empty tubs, pallets or crates, and locating finished product.
  • Monitor inventory levels in tubs and downsize to appropriate storage container.
  • Place received inventory into warehouse locations and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Monitor bar stock, sheet, and coil steel inventory and stage into the vertical storage area utilizing FIFO.
  • Stage production packets and component parts for required production areas.
  • Ensure correct components are staged for each job to eliminate scrap/obsolete/excess inventory.
  • Use oldest inventory first to maintain a FIFO system.
  • Maintain upkeep of the design/sales mockup area, disposing of cardboard and scrap.
  • Accurately weigh and determine parts and counts for sub-contract jobs, utilizing FIFO.
  • Return unused inventory not required by the production packet to the proper area, ensuring documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Stage crates for use in assembly to ensure continuous production.
  • Stack and return empty tubs to proper departments for use in upcoming production jobs.
  • Assist sort/rework and incoming inspection staff with material handling as needed.
  • Deliver chemicals and compounds to appropriate department/storage areas.
  • Maintain records of items to be recycled, verify items being picked up with the carrier, and generate shipping documents.
  • Remove obsolete inventory from storage and assure proper disposal.
  • Keep work area in a cleared and orderly condition to minimize safety hazards and lost-time accidents.
  • Be actively involved in 5S standards.
  • Order or advise Coordinator/Supervisor of required supplies needed to perform job objective.
  • Follow established safety procedures and policies at all times.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Perform job functions in a manner that supports TriMark's mission, vision, and values.
