About The Position

Family-owned and operated since 1995, By the Yard proudly manufactures maintenance-free outdoor furniture and accessories for families and businesses throughout the United States. From the factory to the showroom, we infuse our operations with eco-consciousness. Our furniture has been made from recycled milk jugs since day one, and we continue to focus on green initiatives to build better furniture and a better future. The Material Handler ensures the efficient, timely flow of materials to production. Responsibilities include operating forklifts (on occasion), pallet jacks, managing inventory accuracy via computer system, conducting cycle counts, and replenishing workstations. This role requires strict safety adherence, continuous improvement, and prompt removal of finished goods.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience using tools and other equipment.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly.
  • Understand and follow written, verbal, and demonstrated directions.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Some flexibility in the work schedule to be present for early or late material deliveries as needed.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of relevant production or manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification (we will train).
  • Experience using industrial equipment such as upcut, angle, table and band saws, drill press, router.

Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to safety guidelines, wear PPE, and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Deliver parts and materials to production stations using standard routes, ensuring constant, efficient supply to minimize operator downtime.
  • Conduct daily inventory checks, cycle counts, and manager inventory levels (min/max) to reduce excess stock.
  • Organize storage areas, ensuring materials are clearly labeled and accessible, directly contributing to 5S initiatives.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment to safely load/unload, move, and stage materials.
  • Use computerized inventory systems to accurately track material movements and transactions.
  • Cross train in other areas in the plant to support any coverage needed.
  • Remain compliant with housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Work with other departments on various assignments as necessary.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
