About The Position

This role is responsible for managing unassembled cartons, assembling and taping them according to packing instructions, and ensuring a steady supply of cartons for production lines. The Material Handler also plays a key role in managing finished goods by closing, taping, and preparing them for shipment, while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to bring unassembled cartons from staging area to taping station.
  • Ability to assemble cartons and tape them per packing instructions.
  • Ability to make only enough cartons for 30 minutes or 1 hour of production.
  • Ability to place preassembled empty cartons on production lines.
  • Ability to close up and tape shut full boxes.
  • Ability to ensure liners are properly folded or tied.
  • Ability to mark labels and cartons neatly with correct information.
  • Ability to place finished cartons on pallets or slip sheets.
  • Ability to stack cartons in straight and neat rows.
  • Ability to apply correct banding or stretch wrap.
  • Responsibility for keeping assigned areas clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Ability to keep workstation clean and free from dirt and debris.
  • Ability to clean assigned areas of the building or equipment as instructed.

Nice To Haves

  • Point out if an area is not clean, neat, and orderly at the beginning of the shift to the Packaging Supervisor before the end of the previous shift.

Responsibilities

  • Bring unassembled cartons from staging area to taping station for assigned lines.
  • Assemble cartons and tape them per the packing instructions for the item that is running on assigned lines.
  • Make only enough cartons to be used on 30 minutes or 1 hour worth of production to eliminate congestion and safety risks.
  • Place preassembled empty cartons (with unopened liners) on each line where Packer-Trimmer-Inspectors can have easy access to them. Keep cartons neat and orderly.
  • Close up and tape shut (or bundle up) full boxes as soon as possible after an Inspector Packer has completed packing them.
  • Make sure liner(s) are properly folded or tied per instruction to prevent dust contamination of the finished goods.
  • Mark label and carton neatly with correct carton number and any other special coding information.
  • Place finished cartons on pallet or slip sheet as required by instructions. Cartons are to be numbered and stacked in the order they were produced, labels always facing out. Always stack cartons in straight and neat rows.
  • Apply correct banding or stretch wrap to stacked cartons per shipping specifications.
  • Keep the area around your workstation clean and free from dirt and debris; this may include cleaning assigned areas of the building or pieces of equipment as instructed by your supervisor.
