About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for safely handling and staging material for production at the paint line. The Material Handler is also responsible for preparing necessary materials for packaging of finished coils. In addition to those primary functions, the Material Handler ensures that finished coils are properly identified with a coil identification ticket and are stored properly in a designated location.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate information in small group situations to other employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve problems which, involve multiple variables in a standard situation.
  • Required to drive a forklift
  • Operate an overhead crane
  • Use various power tools.
  • Trained and capable of assuming the position of payoff operator when necessary.
  • Capable of recognizing metal defects.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to walk.
  • Occasionally required to stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance.
  • Required to be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months forklift experience desired
  • 12 months overhead crane experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Preparing materials to be used for packaging and shipping of finished coils.
  • Packaging finished coils in a safe manner and moving those coils to a designated location for finished goods.
  • Verifying that finished goods (coils) are properly identified with an identification ticket prior to moving them to a storage area.
  • Verifying that finished goods (coils) are not damaged or visibly non-conforming prior to moving them to a designated storage area.
  • Quarantining non-conforming material (using the HFI process) and notifying Quality Control when non-conforming conditions exist.
  • Understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place.
  • Communicating daily with internal personnel from Maintenance, Operations and Quality Control in order to help resolve any problems and help achieve company goals.
