About The Position

The Material Handler I is responsible for various tasks throughout the shift to ensure the smooth operation of the packing line and warehouse. This includes preparing for the current and next jobs, managing materials, loading and unloading trucks, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team setting.

Requirements

  • Ability to arrive 10 minutes before shift.
  • Ability to verify pallet specifications.
  • Ability to de-stage current jobs and stage for the next job.
  • Ability to pack supplies and move skids.
  • Ability to pre-stage by gathering product and packing supplies.
  • Ability to de-stage completed jobs and return unused supplies.
  • Ability to assist in closing jobs.
  • Ability to coordinate with Material Stager.
  • Ability to obtain pallets, boxes, bottoms, and dividers.
  • Ability to scan completed orders and move finished goods.
  • Ability to load semis and unload trucks.
  • Ability to visualize and measure pallet size with correct box.
  • Ability to familiarize self with items being packed.
  • Must use required safety PPE: steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Ability to transport materials using forklift, pallet jack, carts, and other devices.
  • Ability to work with Material Stager and Team Lead – Packing during slow periods.
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and motivation.
  • Ability to monitor scrap system.
  • Ability to carry out assignments in a timely, diligent, and safe manner.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects by hand or use hand pallet jack.
  • Ability to clean work area, machines, and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain assigned lines in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures, including GMP practices.
  • Understanding of packing line procedures (Balcip).
  • Understanding of packing line metrics and goals.
  • Ability to complete daily end-of-shift duties.
  • Ability to keep the flow of the process moving at a fast and steady pace.

Responsibilities

  • Arriving 10 minutes before shift to receive updates from the previous shift.
  • Verifying pallet specifications during setup.
  • De-staging current jobs and staging for the next job, including pallets and item count.
  • Packing supplies for the current job and moving skids.
  • Pre-staging for the next job by gathering product and packing supplies.
  • De-staging completed jobs and returning unused packing supplies.
  • Assisting in the closing of jobs.
  • Coordinating with the Material Stager to ensure corrugated cartons are in place and unused materials are returned to the correct location.
  • Obtaining pallets, boxes, bottoms, and dividers for paper bails and loading trucks with paper bails.
  • Scanning completed orders and moving finished goods to the warehouse.
  • Loading semis for the warehouse and unloading pallet trucks and corrugated trucks.
  • Visualizing and measuring pallet size with the correct box.
  • Familiarizing oneself with the items being packed.
  • Correctly using required safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Transporting materials to and from storage to designated areas using forklift, pallet jack, carts, and other devices.
  • Working with the Material Stager and Team Lead – Packing during slow periods to identify materials needed on the packing line or for other prep work.
  • Demonstrating teamwork and motivation on packing jobs.
  • Monitoring the scrap system to ensure material is correctly baled and maintained.
  • Carrying out assignments in a timely, diligent, and safe manner.
  • Lifting heavy objects by hand or using a hand pallet jack.
  • Cleaning work area, machines, and equipment using a broom, rags, and cleaning compounds.
  • Maintaining assigned lines in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Following all safety policies and procedures, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), to meet company standards.
  • Understanding packing line procedures (Balcip), including card orientation, card jogging, final quality/collating verification, and quality checks.
  • Understanding all packing line metrics and goals.
  • Completing daily end-of-shift duties as assigned by the Team Lead – Packing.
  • Keeping the flow of the process moving at a fast and steady pace.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
