About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the manufacturing division; hands on operation of all equipment in the yard with the ability and willingness to train other employees, coordinating work within the department, as well as with other departments; reporting pertinent information to the owners and supervisor; and responding to inquiries or requests for information. This position falls under the company's safety-sensitive category. Successful candidates must comply with all company safety policies and procedures, including a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy and are subject to pre-employment, random, post-incident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Crane certification required.
  • Forklift certification course required.
  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal relations, and communicative skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic equipment and engineering terminology.
  • Proficient teaching skills.
  • Proficient mechanical skills.
  • Proficient PC skills.
  • Visual and auditory skills.
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach, climb, and lift items weighing 40 lbs. or less.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery, power tools, or equipment.
  • Ability to handle hazardous, volatile, or flammable materials.
  • Previous experience running outdoor heavy equipment required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred for Texas location.
  • Experience in material handling and/or repair in the rail industry preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of duties to support the manufacturing division, including discussing daily and hourly goals with supervisors, communicating with management on work schedules and equipment maintenance, managing and organizing inventory, unloading and receiving parts and supplies, operating cranes/forklifts for loading and unloading, acting as the main point of contact for deliveries and pick-ups, managing all division inventory and entering it into the system, transferring parts to corresponding jobs, creating orders for supplies, and performing inventory cycle counts.
  • Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
  • Communicates with the Director of Operations and appropriate staff personnel to integrate activities.
  • Abides by current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment free of harassment and illegal discriminatory behavior.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness, and the company’s compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to their particular area, or to requests from customers, other personnel, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.
