About The Position

Reporting to the Supervisor and Skilled Lead Hand, Material Handlers are responsible for the efficient movement of plant products as directed by product SOP’s and process requirements. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their shift in that role however they will also be required to work on the production line when required. All duties are performed in a safe and efficient manner. The Material Handler will be responsible for following established food safety and quality procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be able to handle heavy lifting of up to 30kg boxes and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to maintain a hand truck and forklift license.
  • Proven ability to understand and follow safety and work instructions in English.
  • Good communication skills and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with little supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or Grade 12 equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience of manufacturing or food/meat production is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper movement of material and product as needed for planned production in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform a variety of sorting and packing tasks as a part of the production crew.
  • Safely and efficiently process and package products according to daily production schedules.
  • Assist team in helping perform quick product changeovers and promptly report any mechanical issues.
  • General cleanup and product movement with pallet truck.
  • Inspect products for quality assurance, immediately reporting any defects or foreign objects.
  • Perform all tasks to ensure compliance with specifications of the customer product.
  • Ensure acceptable housekeeping of working area, free of slip and trip hazards at all times.
  • Other duties as directed by Skilled Lead Hands and Supervisors.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
