About The Position

The Material Handler is an entry-level Yard Crew position and part of a three-member team. The role involves preparing and securing product loads for trailers, working from pick lists with the Crew Leader, and communicating with the crane operator while rigging panels for lifting. The Material Handler is trained to inspect rigging equipment before use and to guide crane operations using hand signals when the Crew Leader is absent. The position also includes supporting teammates and participating in company 6S, Lean, and Safety Programs. Training includes General Safety Orientation, Overhead Crane and Rigging, Power Tool Safety, and Production Associate Safety.

Requirements

• Read a tape measure to ½ inch.
• Meet the physical demands described: standing or walking 100% of the shift, lifting 60–75 pounds, climbing up to 10–12 feet, and performing repetitive motion, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Nice To Haves

• Basic reading and writing skills.
• Basic math skills, including averages and addition.
• Ability to read blueprints or plans.
• Experience with load pick lists.
• Energetic and self-motivated.

Responsibilities

• Inspect rigging equipment each morning after training in pre-operation inspections.
• Work with the Crew Leader to identify products to load onto trailers using pick lists.
• Learn and use hand signals to guide the crane toward product when the Crew Leader is absent.
• Rig panels for lifting while maintaining communication with the crane operator.
• Prepare trailers for product by placing timbers appropriately.
• Ensure timbers and product are secure, making adjustments when necessary.
• Learn how to mark up loads.
• Assist other team members as needed and work collaboratively as part of the crew.
• Actively participate in the company's 6S, Lean, and Safety Programs.
