About The Position
Susquehanna Printing Company is hiring a part-time Night Shift Material Handler. The role involves handling materials, stacking and packaging products, distributing pre-printed inserts and printed products, and feeding inserts into a machine. The position is 20 hours per week, with shifts from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday nights and potentially occasional Fridays as needed. The position is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment and may include overtime as necessary. The employee must be able to stand throughout an entire shift and work weekday and weekend overtime when requested. Susquehanna Printing produces newspapers and other printed products and is part of Steinman Communications.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Feeding experience is required.
- Ability to stand throughout an entire shift.
- Ability to work weekday and weekend overtime as requested.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with forklifts and dollies.
- Experience with basic office equipment such as calculators and computers.
- Proficiency with non-powered hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers.
- Strong sense of urgency, team orientation, adaptability, and good communication.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a continual focus on safety and injury prevention, promptly addressing or reporting unsafe conditions.
- Retrieve production materials and place them in appropriate locations using material-moving equipment safely.
- Jog and feed pre-printed materials into machine feed hoppers.
- Stack bundles of printed products off the press, monitor quality, and prepare bundles for subsequent production steps or distribution.
- Build product skids evenly and accurately according to required quantities.
- Load newspaper bundles into carts by zone, moving empty cages out and full cages in to maintain continuous product flow.
- Wrap finished product using an automated stretch-wrap machine.
- Communicate effectively, work accurately and efficiently, maintain a neat work environment, and assist co-workers when possible.
- Perform other duties and functions as required.
