The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking and distributing material and products within establishment. This role involves reading production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The handler will transport materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or other designated areas, and sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence. They will also fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, assemble customer orders, mark materials with identifying information, and open bales, crates, and other containers. Recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed, weighing or counting items for distribution, and driving material handling equipment are also key duties. The role includes transporting stored items, loading and unloading trailers, and utilizing manual and automated material handling equipment. Safety and hygiene are paramount, requiring adherence to appropriate guidelines for safe housekeeping and personal protection, keeping the work area clean, and ensuring aisles/exits are clear. Employees must follow instructions for safe lifting and carrying, identify and report defective equipment, and report all job-related injuries. Documentation through photos and computer entry is required. Depending on the role, tasks may include climbing and working at heights, checking seals and taking samples from tank trailers, and performing cycle counts. Mandatory overtime may be required, and support for Continuous Improvement initiatives like 5S is expected. Other duties may be performed as required.
