About The Position
Under direct supervision, the Material Handler handles and maintains the flow of materials and products on the premises according to established guidelines. This entry-level position includes on-the-job training. The employee physically handles materials used to construct components and finished products, operates material-handling equipment, and follows safety procedures. The role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Knowledge of and ability to use motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment.
- Manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of safety procedures for materials-handling tasks.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Responsibilities
- Physically handle materials used to construct components and finished products to optimize their movement, including lifting, carrying, and stacking items as needed.
- Operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment; some equipment may require specialized training.
- Respond to training from a foreman or more senior handlers to increase knowledge of work processes.
- Understand and observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or coworkers; attend required periodic safety meetings and may recommend improvements to safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
